San Miguel Electric Cooperative Announces 2020 Charitable Recipients

CHRISTINE, Texas [Feb. 11, 2020] – San Miguel Electric Cooperative (SMEC) has announced its annual donations to local charitable organizations to assist them in fulfilling their missions to the local community.

“Caring for our neighbors – especially during difficult times like the COVID-19 pandemic – is integral to the culture of San Miguel Electric Cooperative,” said Mike Kezar, general manager of SMEC, which each year supports various qualifying organizations within the Cooperative’s South Texas geographic areas. “Through our yearly charitable funds, as well as the countless hours our employees spend on helping their neighbors, we work hard to make a difference in our local communities,” said Kezar.

In 2020, San Miguel gave $1,000 donations to the following organizations:

• Jamie’s Ranch for Special Kids

• The Campbellton Volunteer Fire Department

• The Christine Volunteer Fire Department

• The Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department

• The Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department

• The Poteet Volunteer Fire Department

• Quilted Hearts

• Longhorn Museum

• Atascosa County Child Care Board

• The Leming Volunteer Fire Department


In addition to providing these grants, the Cooperative and its employees in 2020 provided volunteer hours to the following projects:

Feb. 12 – Texas Ramp Project (built ramp in Charlotte)

Feb. 14 – Longhorn Museum (landscaping)

June – Jaime’s Ranch (clean up, built fence)

Dec. 17 – Texas Ramp Project (built ramp in Poteet)
